TV Shows To Watch In 2021

Looking for some great TV shows to watch in 2021? Well, you’re in the right place!

Below are several TV shows that I’m looking forward to watching in 2021. Some are available to watch right now on Netflix and catch up, yet some are to look forward to later this year.

TV Shows Released In 2021

Tahar Rahim and Jenna Coleman star in the BBC true crime drama The Serpent. Rahim plays serial killer Charles Sobhraj (nicknamed ‘The Serpent’), and Coleman plays his girlfriend and accomplice. This eight-part series follows the main suspect of the unsolved murders in India, Thailand and Nepal through 1975 and 1976.

The Serpent is now available on BBC Iplayer in the UK and on Netflix elsewhere.

With a star-studded cast including Ralph Fiennes, Lily James and Carey Mulligan, The Dig is based on the true story of the Sutton Hoo excavation in Suffolk. Adapted by screenwriter Moira Buffini from the 2007 novel by John Preston, The Dig centres on a ground-breaking historical discovery just before the second world war.

The Dig will be available on Netflix from the 29th January.

If musicals are more your thing, In The Heights will be available later this year. A film adaptation based on the 2007 stage musical of the same name and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda. In The Heights focuses on bodega owner Usnavi de la Vega (Anthony Ramos) who dreams of a better life. In The Heights should be released in July this year.

Many people have recommended The Witcher, and although I still haven’t seen it, I’ve heard lots of good things about it! Based on the Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is a fantasy drama series which centres around a monster-hunter (Henry Cavill) and his struggle to find his place in the world. This hugely popular Netflix show is perfect for fantasy fans. The second season is thought to be released later this year, yet the exact date is tbc.

Another show that I haven’t watched, but again, I have heard many good things about it! Peaky Blinders is a period crime drama based loosely on a street gang of the same name. This multi-award winning series is hugely popular, and there’s plenty of time to catch-up before the next season airs! After delays due to Coronavirus, the sixth season is expected to be released late in 2021, although the exact date is still to be confirmed.

If crime dramas are your thing, The Pembrokeshire Murders may interest you. This new true crime drama series, split into three parts, follows Welsh detective Steve Wilkens (Luke Evans) as he searches for evidence to convict serial killer John Cooper (Keith Allen). The Pembrokeshire Murders is now available to watch on ITV Catch-up.

Another crime drama series that I’m looking forward to later this year is Grace. This two-part series is based on Peter James’ books and stars John Simm as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace who is investigating a disappearance, but soon learns that not everything is as it seems. I recently watched John Simm in Life on Mars and really enjoyed that, so hopefully I’ll enjoy Grace just as much. Filming for Grace began in September 2020. A release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it should be later this year!
